NTA Commissions 20 Mini Buses and Five Cargo Trucks to Improve Public Transportation
The National Transit Authority (NTA) has taken another major step toward improving public transportation and logistics services across Liberia with the commissioning of 20 new mini buses and five cargo trucks.
The vehicles, procured through ABK Incorporated, were officially dedicated during a ceremony attended by government officials, NTA management, and staff. The addition of the new fleet is expected to boost the Authority’s capacity to serve commuters, students, businesses, and farming communities throughout the country.
Speaking at the event, NTA Managing Director Edmund F. Forh described the acquisition as part of the Authority’s broader vision to modernize transportation services and make them more accessible to the Liberian people. He noted that the mini buses will immediately be assigned to specialized transportation programs, including airport shuttle services and student transportation initiatives designed to provide safer and more convenient travel options.
According to Mr. Forh, the newly acquired cargo trucks will play a vital role in supporting agricultural development by transporting farm produce from rural communities to major markets. He said the initiative aligns with national efforts to strengthen food distribution networks and improve economic opportunities for local farmers.
The Managing Director also highlighted ongoing efforts to modernize the Authority’s financial and operational systems. He announced that NTA is introducing an electronic payment platform to improve accountability, increase revenue collection, and minimize cash handling risks. The project has been awarded to Labora, a Liberian-owned technology company, for an investment of US$248,000.
In addition, Mr. Forh revealed that construction is underway on a modern NTA Data Center, which will serve as the backbone of the Authority’s digital transformation agenda. The facility is expected to support electronic ticketing, revenue management, data security, and other technology-driven services aimed at improving efficiency.
Representing President Joseph Nyuma Boakai at the ceremony, Minister of State for Presidential Affairs Samuel A. Stevquoah praised the NTA for its commitment to innovation and service delivery. He commended the management team for taking practical steps to strengthen the country’s transportation network and encouraged employees to remain dedicated to maintaining the progress achieved.
Minister Stevquoah emphasized the importance of safeguarding the newly acquired assets and ensuring that they are used responsibly for the benefit of the Liberian people. He noted that effective management and maintenance of the vehicles will be critical to their long-term impact.
The dedication of the new fleet reflects NTA’s continued efforts to enhance mobility, support economic growth, and provide dependable transportation services nationwide. With expanded passenger and cargo capacity, the Authority is positioning itself to better meet the growing transportation needs of communities across Liberia while advancing its vision of a modern and sustainable public transit system.
